Fats You Need To Love

"I'm going to lose ten pounds!"

"I'll be the Mayor of Easton Gym on Foursquare in no time."

"Eating just salads in January will help me shed some pounds, right?"

Sound familiar? Of course. As we finish up 2011 and head into 2012, many of us are starting to make our resolutions for the New Year. Most resolutions involve bettering our own image, whether through diet or exercise. It's important to remember though, when planning a low-fat meal regimen to only cut out the bad fats, and keep in the good. Good fats do many things for our bodies, from regulating blood sugar/insulin release and hormones to lubricating our joints, hair, and arteries. Besides, who doesn't love a good bowl of guac?

Try adding healthy fats by incorporating into your diet a few of these that we love:
  • Avocado
  • Coldwater Fish (wild salmon, herring)
  • Eggs
  • Nuts (almonds, walnuts) and nut butters (almond, cashew)
  • Oils (coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil)
  • Seeds (chia, flax, hemp, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower)
